Create a Romantic Shabby Chic Style Bedroom
1. Bedding – Choose vintage inspired florals, stripes, and patterns in pastels. Mix and match them. Throw in some beautiful vintage or reproduction chenille’s for added texture.
2. Lighting – Hang a beautiful chandelier over the center of the bed. Whether old or new, the chandelier of choice should be dripping with prisms and glass beading. When choosing a chandelier you should keep in mind that it will be a focal point. Choose ornate or glass lamp bases with floral lampshades
3. Paint – White of course lends itself to creating a very clean look. If you intend to use a lot of white art frames or mirrors, you may want to choose a slightly contrasting color for the walls such as a white sage or a soft pink. To create pop, paint the ceiling, doors, and trim white.
4. Wall Decor – Beautiful romantic floral paintings with ornate frames are perfect. Large ceiling tin framed mirrors hanging on the wall. For a more dramatic look, purchase a large mirror and lean it up against a wall creating a full length mirror.
5. Furniture – Mixing the old with the new is one of the nicest features of a Shabby Chic bedroom. If you are having trouble fitting in an old piece that you love because it is too dark, paint it white. Don’t forget to distress the edges to give it a natural worn look.

Putting Your Palace To Bed
News Canada
NC —If youre a sailor, there are few things as precious as your boat. Power or sail, whatever the size, your boat is your escape, your refuge, your palace. Below are a few tips on protecting that refuge from old man winter.
Boat In the Water
Fill fuel tanks, add stabilizer.
Change engine oil and filters, always using brand name products from known marine specialists, like Castrol.
Winterize head, holding tank and fresh water system by draining or filling with non-toxic anti-freeze.
Winterize any other water using equipment.
Remove electronics, antennas and couplers. Spray and tape exposed cables.
Service cradle if necessary.
Boat On Dry Land
Lubricate or grease all systems requiring such.
Pump bilges completely dry, rinse with cleaner, empty again.
Charge batteries fully. Disconnect if leaving on boat.
Winterize engine and cooling system. Drain all water from engine block and any stern drives. Replace with storage antifreeze.
Clean fridge and/or ice box thoroughly.
Use mildewcide or anti-fungus products liberally.
Leave lockers and hatches open where possible. Leave bilge access open.
Be sure the entire boat has access to plenty of fresh air.
And if youre really gung-ho, you can do all that important exterior stuff like varnishing and washing the hull.
A wealth of interesting and valuable information on motor oils and lubricants can be found at www.castrolcanada.com or other well known petroleum web sites.

Do They Really Need a Dog Bed

Do They Really Need a Dog Bed
Tina Spriggs
When Lucky was starting to show signs of aging, we were concerned about her comfort. She would have a hard time getting up in the morning. Her legs would shake and she would take five minutes just to get up, where once she could pounce up in a second.
Her hips were really thin and her muscle mass was decreasing rapidly.
What we found out was that we could help her by getting an orthopedic dog bed. The sad part is, we probably could have helped her avoid this by getting it for her when she was younger.
See, dogs can develop calluses and arthritis from laying on hard floors or rocks in the ground.
Naturally we did what we could to make her more comfortable during her last days.
That dog was a mighty powerhouse in her time, and it was so hard to see her deteriorate like this.
Now, all five of our dogs have warm dog beds to keep them comfortable, warm, and most importantly, healthier.

Obedience Training Benefits Everyone
Brett Fogle
Obedience Training Benefits Everyone
Brett Fogle
A well behaved, obedience trained dog is a pleasure to own because he can go virtually anywhere without being a risk or nuisance to others. And dont we all want a dog who exhibits appropriate behavior in a crowd, good manners when we have guests in our home, is reliable around children, and who doesnt threaten other dogs or passers-by
Note: Never ever move forward to the next level with out having mastered the preceding step. And remember you never should correct your dog by hitting. Before we start the training I will state below a few things as they occur in the training process.
Difficulty of the command
Always begin teaching your puppy or dog the easiest commands possible i.e.: "Look", "Sit", etc.. Very gradually introduce new and more difficult commands; making sure the dog knows the preceding command before he is moved to the next level.
Degree of inherent genetic compatibility with a given command
Consider your dogs genetic makeup. If you have a Basset Hound and want to teach him personal protection, you may have your work cut out for you. If instead, you have a German shepherd or Rottweiler from Schutzhund lines, youll probably have an easier time teaching him personal protection. Using the above example, if you have a Labrador Retriever from field lines that you are interested in teaching to fetch a ball, youre dog is likely to learn how to retrieve relatively easily.
Duration of time
When initially teaching a new command, such as "Sit", if your dog sits for even just a second or two, he should be praised, use the same type of voice you would on a baby high pitched and happy. Praise reward and release him/her. Gradually, the duration of time your dog should be taught to remain in position should be increased.
Note: Make sure your dog is physically comfortable throughout any training exercises. Always release your dog from a command/session before s/he becomes stressed. Short and sweet sessions are often best. Always end sessions on a positive note!
Distraction level
Start training each new command in an area free of distractions, such as your home or yard. Once your dog is responding reliably, gradually increase the distraction level. Add distractions such as:
Bouncing a ball
Throwing a ball/toy
Squeak a toy
Doing "Jumping Jacks"
Singing a song
Running around your dog
Playing "Ring-Around-The-Rosie" around your dog
Play "Patty Cakes" with a friend in front of your dog
Have dogs heel around your dog
Throw treats around your dog
NOTE: Never use a distraction that frightens your dog.
Distance between you and your dog
Begin teaching a command with you dog right next to or in front of you. Gradually increase the distance between you and your dog to 30 feet.
Distance between your dog and an object of attraction
If your dog is 3 feet from you and 37 feet from a squirrel, flock of pigeons, or another dog, you have a greater likelihood of getting your dog to respond to a command than if your dog is 37 feet from you and 3 feet from a squirrel, flock of pigeons, or another dog! Once your dog is reliable in the face of distant distractions, gradually, decrease the distance between your dog and any "objects of attraction".
Different locations
Just because your puppy will respond to the word "Sit" in your living room, it doesnt mean he understands that command in the context of the local dog run. Dont expect your dog to automatically generalize the meaning of a given command in every environment or context. Once your dog fully understands a command at home, it is important to re-teach the command in many different locations. Make sure to practice commands in both rural and urban locations.
Different surfaces
Practice commands on a variety of surfaces including:
Cement sidewalks
Grass-covered lawns
On sand
On dirt
Different object surfaces
On a chair
On a table
On a low wall
On a log
On a surf board in the ocean
On the back of a horse
Differing order of commands given
A "pattern trained" dog will always expect one specific command to follow another specific command. This can work for or against you depending on the circumstances. Usually it is advisable not to pattern train, as your dog will have greater difficulty learning how to respond to a given command that is out of order.
Different contexts
Many dogs have difficulty responding to commands that are given out of context to normal training situations. Many dogs simply have not yet fully generalized a given command.
Try giving known commands:
As youre walking down the street with your dog.
When youre in your local pet supply store.
While youre on line at the bank
When youre both within five to ten feet of your local dog run entrance, while dogs come and go.
While inside the dog run with your dog, both with and without a leash.
When riding in a moving elevator assuming your dog is already acclimated to riding in moving elevators.
The best time of the day to train your dog
There really is no "best time of day," but I find it easiest to train if the dog is hungry I use food rewards. That way, the dog will want to do things well, so he gets a treat.
If you have a choice between a sleeping dog and an excited one, I would try for the sleeping dog. She can make that sleep up later, but trying to train an overly excited dog is darn near impossible!
As far as the basement, yes, by all means, if she likes that area, go for it! What better way than to train in an area that your dog already likes. It will make it an even more enjoyable experience.
I would probably close the door so your other dog cant get in. You dont want the distraction, at least in the initial training stages.
The best age range to teach a dog to obey
A good time to start the obedience training is about 6-7 weeks of age and to start with small amounts of time like 15 min or less twice a day. All Your basics like sit stay down off heel on lead and anything else u want them to learn. I would train them first not to chew on your hands or clothes or wires around the house since that’s their big thing around that age, or not to jump on you when you play with them or feed them so that they will know that those are no no’s early on and make it easier for later on when you start with the other stuff. In addition, I think potty training as early as possible is good too. We will discuss all that as we move forward with the training.

Is Dog Obedience School for You
Tina Spriggs
Is Dog Obedience School for You
Tina Spriggs
Are you thinking about dog obedience school Do you know what to expect out of it Do you know what it costs or where to find a good school
If not, let me help take out some of the mystery of finding one to make sure you and your dog get the best experience you can.
If you have searched the web in this topic, you probably found some sites that are basically search engines within search engines, no real information about dog obedience schools. Or you might have found some obedience schools that were on the other side of the country. Needless to say, neither one was of much use.
Chances are you have a dog obedience school of some sort in your town, unless youve got a population of less than 20,000. In that event, you might need to opt for dog training videos or books, and I will go over some good resources for that later.
The first thing I want you to do is look for someone with proven experience. You can start in the yellow pages and look under "Dog Training" as opposed to "dog obedience school."
Ask a LOT of questions. These people are going to be molding the mind of your impressionable pup and you want to know that its a good fit.
Ask things like:
What will the dog be taught What is the success rate What happens if youre not satisfied Will you be taught how to continue with your dogs new training What are their methods of correction when the dog disobeys Visit the facility too. Check it out. Meet the trainers and see how they act with people and dogs.
Ask if you can watch a training session or a video of a session so you get an idea of what your dog will be subjected to.
Dont make a final decision on a dog obedience school until your dog has met the trainers. Dogs are extremely good judges of character.
For the most part, someone in this line of work is going to be a good person and a dog lover. Some, however, will be doing it just to get a paycheck and may not have your pals best interest in mind.
If your dog doesnt like them... take another route.
You might want to consider the local 4-H club. 4-H is where I learned how to train my own dog as a child. It isnt a dog obedience school in the traditional sense. It teaches kids how to train their dogs, or a friends dog. Its a youth education program and it provides many facets of education, one of which is often dog training.
Read more about dog training videos, if you would like an alternative to dog obedience school.

Too Many Clothes and Not Enough Bedroom
Dan The Roommate Man
Too Many Clothes and Not Enough Bedroom
Dan The Roommate Man
The commercial and residential building trend for today is more living area space and less bedroom space. When an apartment complex has to compromise - the large bedroom and its accompanying storage space will be the first to get the pink slip.
Lack of storage space is a flash from the past, when storage was not in walls or in shelving but in massive pieces of furniture each had a specific purpose and the grouping seemed to take up the whole room. As a renter - youll have to supply your own storage.
Whats the solution Consider how America used to live. Small bedrooms herald back to way before the fifties, when people accumulated fewer things and consumerism was less focused on the individual and more on the common good of the family. That changed substantially after World War II and the birth of the "Me" Generation - better known as baby boomers. An exhilarated nation lavished new goods bought cheaply from around the world on its families, children and grandchildren, and consumerism has never taken a step back. No longer are we happy with one of everything one winter coat, one TV - now we have been enculturated to appreciate variety over value.
Increased availability and reduced prices for consumer goods has created an enthusiastic consumer for collecting small goods - clothes, trinkets, and accessories. For those who love to shop at The Gap and The Limited , and can afford to buy a whole new wardrobe every season, lack of closet space and smaller bedrooms can be a real inconvenience.
If space is a problem, look to the past on how to solve it and make it work for you in the meantime.
1. Revamp Your Wardrobe.
How did our grandmothers manage with those tiny closets and fancy carved wardrobes that we now use to hold our TVs The answer is simple - they had fewer clothes and they took better care of them.
Throw out anything you have not worn in over a year. Be brutal. Clothes hanging in your closet wont give you any additional value, they just keep getting limper until you never wear them at all.
Assess what is left for wear and tear. Weed out some more. Again be brutal.
Try to make a mix and match plan with what remains. Any item that doesnt go with at least two or three other items, you dont need. A blouse should go with at least a skirt and a pair of pants, and perhaps, jeans. A sport coat should complement at least two different pairs of slacks. Some clothes can traverse the seasons and work layered under other things. A T-shirt can add warmth to a medium weight sweater that will get you through most cold days.
2. Buy fewer clothes and take better care of them. Any new item you buy automatically makes at least two items in your wardrobe obsolete. Dont believe me Do the math. Youll likely wear a new item as often as twice in the first week you own it, then you might wear it as often as once a week or more for a few weeks more. Youll also stop wearing items from the same "era." Why The psychological associations are simply too strong. If you really want to buy something, look at how long the season is to wear it - 3 months to six months depending on the climate in which you live then divide the number of wearings once a week into that period. That is a quick way to decide if you realize that the great blouse you just found is going to cost you $30 a wearing because the seasons are about to change.
Joan Crawford was right. No more wire hangers...ever. The thin wire wears a groove into clothes and causes unsightly lumps in anything with a knitted fabric. Knits should be folded and stored. Wherever possible, get your hands on coat hangers or plastic hangers and use those for your hangables.
3. Decorate with some of your favorite wearables. Is your hat collection taking up too much room Hang one on your bedpost, make an arrangement on the wall. Accent with bunches of upside down dried flowers. No way to keep your ties neat Create a rack on one wall or use as a headboard. Ties can add color and style. Add to your collection with funky ties from the back of Dads closet or the Salvation Army.
4. Put everything on the walls that you can, including lighting. Lamps take up a lot of room on small bedside tables, room you may need for other things. Brace small shelves on the wall on either side of your bed and present your lamps like works of art. Invest in shelves that you can take down and take with you when you move. Create vignettes on the shelves that can be useful and bring color and urban wit to your bedroom - books, memorabilia. Decorate with items that are distinctively you.
One of the most charming decorative items from the past are wall shelves, brackets and sconces. If you go into new furniture stores, you will see that wall storage is making a huge comeback and at very expensive prices.
5. If your bedroom isnt large enough to accommodate the kind of furniture you really want, paint a tromp-loeil version of what you want. Tromp-loeil is the art of painting or fabricating something so that it looks like the real thi ng. One decorating style book suggests painting a canopy on the wall and ceiling behind and above the bed to give the illusion of elegance. Rooms with small windows can be similarly fooled with paintings that feature windows and pictures of beautiful views.
6. Change the way you study, pay bills, or work at home. Move the "home office" out of the bedroom and find a convenient place in your more spacious living room area.
Psychological studies show that when you study, read or do work that requires concentration, you will perform better away from areas associated with relaxation and sleep. The reverse is true also. You will sleep better away from demanding reminders of projects due.
7. Keep it simple. A few large pieces of furniture will have more utility than scaled down versions of more items. Use one nightstand instead of two, but make it a large one. Use a large dresser that can accommodate all your foldables. Out of season items can be stored in boxes and put in the closet or under the bed.

Ayurveda is perhaps the oldest system of health care in the world and originates from the Indian subcontinent.
Ayurveda is based on scientific principles of diagnosis and treatment. It differs from conventional medicine in the basic principles of investigation and assigning causes to processes rather than specific areas of physiology.
Ayurveda has been a vogue since 5000 years ago. Our Vedas have been repeated references to the efficacy of Ayurveda as a science of healthy life. The western world is now realizing the value of Ayurveda in treating Chronic diseases like Arthritis, Paralysis, Stroke, Neurological disorders etc. Even WHO has given high rating for Ayurveda system.
It differs from conventional medicine in the basic principles of investigation and assigning causes to processes rather than specific areas of physiology. The increasing awareness of herbal medicines in Western markets such as USA, UK, Canada and Japan and the technological advancements in biotech industry were two major reasons which compelled us to offer a platform like this.
The key to the success of www.AyurvedicCure.com is the quality of the ingredients they use, the way in which formulae are based on ancient Ayurvedic traditions, a careful manufacturing process and an ongoing research program for testing and evaluating new and old products.
Here are some Important Herbs and their Uses:
Ashvagandha Withania Somnifera, Winter Cherry: Traditionally, Ashwagandha has been used in many ways--as a sedative, a diuretic, a rejuvenating tonic, an anti-inflammatory agent, and as an "adaptogen" endurance enhancer. Many Western herbalists refer to this herb as "Ayurvedic ginseng" because of its reputation for increasing energy, strength, and stamina, and for its ability to relieve stress. It is especially beneficial in stress related disorders such as arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, general debility, etc. It has also shown impressive results when used as stimulants for the immune system. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/ashwagandha.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/ashvagandha.htm
Amla Emblica officinalis, Indian Goosebery: Amla contains the highest amount of Vitamin C Ascorbic acid, Phyllembin, Phyllemblic acid, Gallic acid, Ellagic acid in natural form and Cytokin like substance identified as Zeatin, Z riboside, Z nucleotide, Tannins 30%. It is one of the strongest rejuvenatives in Indian pharmacopoeia. It contains 30 times the amount of Vitamin C found in oranges. Its antibacterial, carminative, hypoglycemic, stomachic, Hypotensive and astringent action prevents infection, helps in healing of ulcers, treatment of jaundice, dyspepsia and cough and controls hyperacidity. Alma is a good Cardio Tonic and its mild stimulant action on heart helps to control blood pressure. The use of Indian Gooseberry enhances the antidiabetic action of Karela. Phyllanthus Emblica is a very good hair tonic. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/amla.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/emblica.htm
Brahmi Bacopa Monniera: Aside from increasing intellectual and cognitive function, Brahmi induces a sense of calm and peace in its users. It is unique in its ability to invigorate mental processes whilst reducing the effects of stress and nervous anxiety. This makes Brahmi extremely applicable in highly stressful work or study environments where clarity of thought is as important as being able to work under pressure. Many people have the intelligence to perform to strict standards, but lack the composure and self-confidence to reach them. Additionally, Brahmi helps soothe the restlessness and distraction that nervousness causes. Brahmi is ideal for students and workers faced with this problem. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/brahmi.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/bacopaherb.htm
Shallaki Boswellia Serrata: Today its major use is as an anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, low back pain, myositis, fibrositis, and osteoarthritis. Experimental and clinical usage of boswella indicates it has none of the side effects on blood pressure, heart rate of the gastric irritation and ulcers associated with many anti-inflammatory and antiarthritic drugs. It is now an approved herbal medicine in India for use against osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, soft tissue rheumatism, low back pain, myositis and fibrositis. In the United States, physicians are giving boswella high marks for effectiveness. Dr. E. W. McDonagh, a Kansas City physician, has reported success among some 350 patients suffering from a variety of advanced muscular and skeletal conditions for which other treatments had failed to help. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/shallaki.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/boswelliaherb.htm
Karela Bitter Gourd, Bitter Melon, Momordica charantia : Bitter Melon, also known as Karela, Momordica Charantia or Bitter Gourd is a herb that helps regulate blood sugar levels and keeps body functions operating normally. It contains Gurmarin, a polypeptide considered to be similar to bovine insulin, which has been shown in experimental studies to achieve a positive sugar regulating effect by suppressing the neural response to sweet taste stimuli. Karelas principle constituents are lectins, charantin and momordicine. The fruits have long been used in India as a folk remedy for diabetes mellitus. Lectins from the bitter gourd have shown significant antilipolytic and lipogenic activities. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/bittergourd.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/bittermelon.htm
Shilajit Asphaltum : This is Shilajit, one of Ayurvedas most potent and unique rejuvenatives. The ancient medical literature attributes many health benefits to Shilajit known as "conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness." It has been said that there is hardly any curable disease which cannot be assisted with the aid of Shilajit. Shilajit has been used historically for general physical strengthening, anti-aging, blood sugar stabilization, libido, injury healing, urinary tract rejuvenation, enhanced brain functioning potency, bone healing, kidney rejuvenation, immune system Strengthening, arthritis, hypertension, obesity and many other application for numerous conditions. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/shilajit.htm
Garlic Lasuna, Allium sativum: The platelet and hypolipidemic activities of Lasuna ensures smooth coronary function. Garlic is regarded as one of the most effective remedies to lower blood pressure. The pressure and tension are reduced because it has the power to ease the spasm of the small arteries. It also slows the pulse and modifies the heart rhythm, besides relieving the symptoms of dizziness, shortness of breath and the formation of gas within the digestive track. It has an antiseptic effect and is an excellent remedy for infectious diseases and inflammations of the stomach and intestine. Human population studies show that eating garlic regularly reduces the risk of esophageal, stomach, and colon cancer. This is partly due to garlics ability to reduce the formation of carcinogenic compounds. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/garlic.htm
Triphala: Triphala, a cornerstone of ayurvedic medicine, is a composite herbal preparation containing equal proportions of the fruits of three myrobalans, Emblica officinalis, Terminalia chebula and Terminalia bellirica. When consumed for a long period, it helps reduce excess weight. It promotes good colon health and acts as a laxative without causing cramps or irritation. It gently stimulates the intestinal walls and restores tone to the colon, thus helping in the elimination process, providing a colon cleansing effect. It gently stimulates the intestinal walls and restores tone to the colon, thus helping in the elimination process, providing a colon cleansing effect. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/triphala.htm
Guggulu: Bedellium, COMMIPHORA MUKUL: Studies show that a 14-27% of LDL cholesterol and 22-30% of triglycerides levels were reduced when guggul was given to men and women with high cholesterol for 12 weeks with no change in diet or exercise. Research with laboratory animals suggests guggul may help enhance thyroid function. Since the thyroid gland produces hormones that are needed to regulate metabolism, it can help in weight loss. Studies show guggul may change thyroid hormone metabolism, increase levels of circulating T3, or triiodothyroxine, a thyroxine metabolite known to raise overall metabolism, which in turn increases fat burning. Since guggul supports atherosclerosis hardening of the arteries, which may impede blood flow to and from the penis, guggul may possibly be the treatment for impotence many men are looking for. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/guggul.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/bedellium.htm
Tulsi Holy Basil, Tulasi: Tulsi has antioxidant properties, and helps boost the bodys ability to fight off damaging free radicals, which have been linked to disease and aging. It is an adaptogen that helps the body fight the effects of ongoing stress and also balances the mind, nerves and emotions. Tulsi maintains the health of the throat chest and lungs. In fact, it helps protect the entire respiratory tract. It is an anti-inflammatory. A herb that promotes optimum respiratory support. Tulasi has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, expectorant properties and is useful in respiratory tract infections. It helps during respiratory stress. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/tulasi.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/tulsi.htm
Neem AZADIRACHTA INDICA: Neem effectively kills the bacteria that cause Acne and studies prove that Neem will reduce inflammation, even the inflammation produced by Acne. In the case of eczema clinical studies demonstrate that even the application of weaker Neem leaf extracts effectively cured acute conditions of eczema, what to speak of the fresh cold pressed oil with its high concentration of active ingredients.Modern clinical studies have identified a number of compounds in the Neem tree that effectively regulate immune system functions. Whether drinking a simple cup of tea out of the leaves or taking extracts of the Neem leaf, Neem significantly and consistently reduced insulin requirements for nonkeytonic, insulin fast, and insulin sensitive forms of Diabetes. The pain, inflammation, and swelling of the joints in arthritis can be greatly reduced by different compounds in Neem http://www.ayurvediccure.com/neem.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/neemherb.htm
Arjuna TERMINALIA ARJUNA: Arjun improves cardiac muscle function and pumping actions of the heart. Scientific studies have shown Arjun to be very effective when used regularly over a period of time for the treatment of angina, coronary artery disease, heart failure, edema, and possibly hypercholesterolemia. Studies have also shown Arjun to have positive effects in the treatment of gonorrhea. Externally, this herb has been used to treat acne, blemishes, wounds, dysentery, and diarrhea. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/arjuna.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/arjunaherb.htm
Tagara Valeriana Wallichi: Valerian root has been used for centuries to calm nervous disorders. Scientific experiments conducted with laboratory animals in West Germany have demonstrated that valerian root corrects muscle spasms and tremors, reduces excitement and irritability, lowers high blood pressure, and calms the central nervous system. Indian Valerian is prescribed as a remedy for hysteria, hypochondria, nervous unrest and emotional troubles. It is also used as a carminative and forms an ingredient of a number of ayurvedic recipes. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/tagara.htm, http://www.ayurvediccure.com/valerian.htm

Risks of Tanning Beds - Not all they are hyped up to be...
Adam Murray
This is one of many articles posted weekly on http://www.tanning-beds-resource.com/
The risks of tanning beds aren’t all that it’s hyped up to now-a-days. For example, all of the skin cancer horror stories that you hear about all came from people who went about tanning the wrong way 20 to 30 years ago. You see, skin cancer has a latency of about 20-30 years. That long ago almost everyone that that getting a sunburn would fade into a nice looking tan, so most people would go to the beach and keep up with a pattern of getting sun burnt. This is what causes skin cancer, the repetitiveness of getting sun burnt. So there is common misconception of the risks of tanning beds. Its not all cancer in a box as many people say.
Some other risks of tanning beds are your eyes. There is some risk if you choose not to wear safety eyewear, or the goggles. This is a requirement for all tanning salons to provide safety eyewear, but no one can actually make you wear them. Without wearing them, the risks of tanning beds increase. You can get an early form of cataracts and you could even have temporary or complete blindness. Although using the safety equipment can leave almost unnoticeable white circles around your eyes, the risk of not using them does not make up for it.
You can reduce the risks of tanning beds by not staying in them for to long. If you notice that after your tanning session that you got burnt, then the next time you go you need to reduce your time a little. Getting sun burnt is the worse thing you can do to your skin. Also, to reduce risk, be sure to wear the goggles for your eyes.

They aren’t just cork board and push pins anymore! Bulletin boards come in all sorts of sizes, shapes, and materials. Your child can pin up pictures of friends, study reminders, and more. Are You Taking Baggage To Bed
Jennifer Clare
Are You Taking Baggage To Bed
Jennifer Clare
You wash your face and brush your teeth, put on an alluring smile and hop into bed with your sweetie – then start dragging your body image baggage under the covers with you.
For some people this means bringing a tiny speck of a change purse – for others it’s a designer handbag. For those who are the most consumed with their body image this could mean an entire set of monogrammed leather bags in various sizes – or, worse, a giant garbage sack filled to the brim!
Where’s the room for a satisfying sex life with all of that
The baggage consists of those destructive thoughts you have about the size of your thighs, the tone of your tummy, the amount of hair on your body. You worry that your partner will notice – or worse, be completely repulsed by you.
If you drag all of those negative beliefs about your body into bed, they can wreak havoc with your sex life.
Unlike you, your partner is probably not thinking about your alleged “flaws” – they are thinking about how much they want to make love to you, and be made love to in return.
They are turned on by the touch of your skin, your smell, your smile. Most of all they are excited by your confidence and openness – and your willingness to be in bed with them in the first place!
If you are obsessed with parts of your body, this can have a negative impact on the quality of your sex life – for you AND your partner. Love-making is a way to bring a couple closer together – but you can’t give yourself to the moment if you are constantly wondering what your partner is thinking about parts of your body. It probably isn’t what you think!
Take a moment before you hop into bed to put those fears and insecurities to rest. Your sweetie is waiting for you – ALL of you – to hop into bed. So look into that bathroom mirror, give yourself a 1000 watt smile and remember that it’s the whole package that’s delivered, not just parts.
Set that baggage outside the door, and hang up the Do Not Disturb sign. You’ve got better things to think about!

Feng Shui Monsters Under Your Bed
Stephanie Roberts
Feng Shui Monsters Under Your Bed
Stephanie Roberts
Good feng shui often requires making wise decisions based on your specific circumstances, rather than blinding following an ideal rule. The feng shui rule for storing things under your bed is "dont do it." But for those who live in small homes every inch of possible storage space is precious. If you are faced with cluttering up some other area of your home with stuff that otherwise might be put under the bed, how do you decide what to do
My preference as a feng shui professional is to keep the more visible, frequently used areas of the home uncluttered. If that means storing some things under the bed, so be it, as long as it is done thoughtfully and appropriately.
There are two reasons why your bed is so important in feng shui. The first is the principle of proximity, which states that the closer something is to you the stronger its effect will be. The second is the principle of duration, which means that the longer you are exposed to a particular influence the stronger its effect will be.
If we were getting our eight full hours of sleep every night, wed be spending a third of our lives in bed. Even with long days and not enough sleep, the average person probably spends 25% or more of his or her time in bed. Keeping the factors of proximity and duration in mind, this means that anything that is close to you while you sleep will have a strong effect on you, either physically or symbolically.
Since you are probably well protected from below by a nice thick mattress, whatever youve got stashed beneath your bed isnt likely to be directly harmful. However, in feng shui the symbolic energy of an object or image is just as important as whatever literal impact it may have. If you are using your underbed area for storage, take a moment to think about the implications of whatever is down there, especially if you havent been sleeping well lately. If you dont remember what youve stashed under your bed, its time to take another look.
Here are some things that you ought to find another place for:
Shoes under the bed can keep you "running around" all night even when you are sound asleep. No matter how many hours of sleep you get, you may never feel well rested.
Exercise gear, workout clothes, and sports equipment are also less than relaxing. Unless you want to feel like youre "going nowhere fast" in life, dont store your treadmill, rowing machine, aerobic step under the bed. Tennis rackets or other gear for competitive sports can bring a competitive, adversarial energy to your romantic relationships. Its best not to have any kind of exercise or sports equipment in the bedroom at all if you can find another place for it.
Books and work or school papers can have an intellectually stimulating effect; if you have trouble turning your mind-chatter off so you can fall asleep at night, make sure you are not sleeping on top of a lot of information. Plus, chances are good that if youre keeping that stuff under the bed it probably isnt at all current, so all that old information is also energetically holding you in the past.
Guns and knives. I really hope you dont feel the need to have these in your house at all. All that potential violence is not conducive to a good nights sleep, no matter how "safe" it may make you feel. A feng shui friend once told me shed consulted for a guy who collected knives, and who kept that collection under his bed. No wonder he complained of a long string of failed relationships! Regardless of any other qualities he may or may not have had, thats a lot of cutting chi underlying what should be a place for romantic connection.
These examples should give you an idea of the sort of potentially disruptive effect the stuff under your bed can have. If you must use the under-bed space for storage, reserve it for soft, cuddly items like extra bedding or your winter sweaters.
You may even find a good use for that space by placing something with positive symbolic meaning there, so you can take conscious advantage of the proximity and duration effect. For example, laying a mirror face up under the bed is a recommended feng shui sure for insomnia; symbolically the mirror reflects the bed "downward" thus drawing into a deep, restful sleep. For a child who is frightened of imaginary monsters under the bed, placing a super-tough-guy action figure under there could provide some important protection and security.
A feng shui client recently asked if it was okay to keep her empty suitcases under the bed. If you enjoy traveling and want to do more of it, then having the luggage under the bed may help to encourage that. Inside the suitcases you can put guidebooks, photos, travel accessories, and other items related to the places where youd like to go. For example, if you would love to take a trip to Paris put a guidebook to the city, a French-English phrase book, and a photo of the Eiffel Tower in an empty suitcase under your bed. Add some French currency or travelers checks for the future trip. The suitcase and its contents is now a feng shui activation to help make your travel dreams come true.
On the other hand, if youve been traveling a lot lately and would like to stay home for a change, then I definitely recommend finding some other place to keep your luggage. If you absolutely, positively have no alternative to keeping suitcases under the bed -- and you really want a break from travel -- put a rock in each one and cover them with a blanket, to help them settle in for a long rest and to keep you grounded at home.

Decorating a Guest Bedroom
Joey Lewitin
The guest bedroom is the one room in the house that you aren’t decorating for yourself. Therefore when you go to design the rooms décor, it is important not to get in your own way. Overdoing the decoration in this room will be a disservice to guests by reinforcing the fact that they are not in their own home. As comfortable as they may be with you, they will never be as comfortable in your home as they would in their own setting. On the other hand, failing to place those few simple pieces that make a space feel personal; will leave the guest room feeling cold and empty.
Arguably the most important item in the guest room, the item that turns it from an extra room into a guest bedroom, is the bed. The bed does not have to be visible. You can have a regular bed, a fold out couch or futon, or a semi permanent bed such as a cot or an air bed.
A regular bed will cost you some space, and a full mattress can be expensive. If you get a small twin sized bed you can throw some pillows on it, place the long end against a wall, and let it double as a couch. A sofa bed does this even more effectively, creating a room that has a dual purpose. Futons are also often less expensive then full mattresses. The least expensive method is a removable bed, such as an air bed or cot. This can open the room up completely, allowing it to double as a gym, sitting room, or library. Usually these beds are very uncomfortable however some of the better quality air mattresses are being made to higher and higher standards. Be sure to try it out before you buy, and make sure that you only get one that is self inflatable.
After you have settled on the bed you have to fill in furniture. If the room doubles as something else, such as a gym, you will have to work around that. A traditional guest room will contain a set of drawers, and a small table. Additionally you can add TV stands, plant stands, or desks, if you have the room. Think of a hotel. They provide just enough to make a person feel comfortable, but they are sure never to clutter the room.
For ambience you can add lamps and different lighting. Lighting is a decoration on its own that is much understated. A floor or desk lamp can provide both illumination and décor. Adding a television or a radio is also a nice touch if it’s in the budget. These items can be used even when the room is unoccupied, as a way to relax in a secluded setting.
The finishing décor touches should be small. Any artwork placed in the room should be restrained, don’t force extreme tastes on others. Impressionistic prints are often the right touch to complete the room. Wall clocks or desk clocks are also a nice way to make a room feel more comfortable.
Decorating a guest room is fairly uncomplicated. You want to provide just enough so that the person in the room is comfortable, without overloading them with your decoration. Just remember to keep it simple, and you should be able to design a room that will make it hard for you to get your houseguests to go.

Putting Your Palace To Bed
News Canada
(NC) —If you're a sailor, there are few things as precious as your boat.
And if you're really gung-ho, you can do all that important exterior stuff like varnishing and washing the hull.

Getting Robbed On A South American Bus
Steve Gillman
We knew better. Both me and my wife had a strong feeling we shouldn't get on that bus in Cuenca, but neither of us said anything. A taxi was two dollars, and the bus cost only twenty-five cents. Ana sat down, but there was no room left for me, so I was packed in with the other commuters standing up. Almost immediately I noticed the drunk pushing his way through the crowd, randomly going this way and that.
I knew somethimg was up, and instinctively reached into my pockets to check on my money. We had just visited the ATM that morning, and the $170 cash in my pocket was the most we had carried in one place during the entire trip. It was still there. The old guy pushed against me like he was trying to find a place to stand comfortably. I checked my pocket again.
A few minutes later some space opened up near Ana, and I went over to her seat. I reached in my pocket again, and it was empty. The other pocket was empty too. I hadn't felt a thing. The old drunk was still on the bus. I looked over at him.
"We've been robbed," I told Ana. "All of it." I grabbed the drunk, who was no longer acting drunk at all.
At the next stop we got off, dragging the thief with us. A police officer appeared, and a crowd formed. The man was very sober now, pulling out his pockets and insisting again and again that he was inocent. He said we could search him if we wanted. I searched him, but understood now that his associate was long gone with the money, probably off the bus at a previous stop.
Despite his begging, and the impossibility of getting the money back, we had the officer take him to the police station on his motorcycle while we followed in a taxi (Paying with a twenty from under the sole of my shoe). We filed a complaint, and he would spend the night in jail, then be released for a lack of evidence in the morning. At least his finger prints were on file now.
Travel Security Lessons
A money belt probably would have prevented the robbery. Pockets that close help too, although I had a wallet stolen from a zipered pocket once, and I didn't notice until forty minutes later. At least it was a decoy-wallet, put there for just such an occasion. My real wallet was safely hidden elsewhere (another little travel security trick).
Carry your money in at least three different places. These can include; under the sole of your shoe, in a pocket that you pin inside your clothes, in your shaving kit. Also carry two credit or debit cards in two separate and secure places. Have the "lost or stolen" phone numbers in another place.
Dress properly. If the area you're visiting has much crime, leave expensive watches and jewelry behind.
There are many things you can do to travel more safely. Of course, the biggest lesson of our experience was obvious. You have to learn to trust your intuition.

Obedience Training Benefits Everyone
