Makeup Tips for Beautiful Eyes by

Makeup Tips for Beautiful Eyes Sheila Dicks

Eyes – the windows of the soul. Eyes give your face energy and individuality and do not have to be a certain size or shape to be considered pretty -all eyes have their own unique beauty. When makeup is applied to look natural it will bring out the eye’s true color and enhance the eye’s beauty. When you feel good about your makeup you will be more confident and will have one less thing to worry about.

A subtle application of eyeliner, shadows and mascara work together to create magic and make your eyes look their best.

Eye Shadow

Eye shadow is meant to highlight and define the eyes. Eye shadow is used to create depth to bring out the beauty of the eyes. A dark color used on the lid will make the eye appear smaller, while a lighter color will make it appear larger. That is what eye shadow is about - creating illusions. These are the basic techniques for the following eye shapes:

Small eyes: Don’t use too much shadow or liner – it will make you eyes look smaller. Apply a light color on eyelid, use a darker color in the crease and use a highlighter under the brow.

Large eyes: Wear darker shadow on the lid and extend it to the crease. Use a flat color under the brow to highlight.

Deep-set eyes: Use light colors on the eyelid and under the brow. Use a medium color in the crease. Emphasize the outer corners with shadow.

Wide-set eyes: Use darker colors on the inner corners of the eye.

Hooded eyes: Apply light colors on the lid. Use darker colors from the center of the eyelid to the outer corners and blend.

Round eyes: Make round eyes longer by using color all around and extending toward the outer corners.

Oriental eyes: Apply highlighter under the brow. Use light shadow on the inner half of the lid and a darker color on the outer half. Light colors cause the eyes to open, dark colors will cause the eyes to recede If you have very light skin avoid dark shades Be careful with shimmer – they will bring attention to imperfections and wrinkles. The eye area is the first to show age don’t tug on the skin.

Eyeliners:

Eyeliners are meant to define the eyes so they should do just that; not be the focal point of your makeup. Eyeliners come in various colors and forms liquid, pencil etc. Keep the eyeliner natural. Pencils are available in many colors for the best look stick to black or brown and can be sharpened for a fine line. For a smudged effect use a sponge tip shadow applicator or an eye shadow brush. When your pencils are too soft refrigerate them. When they are too hard soften them by holding them between your fingers.

To line the eye, start on the lower lid, just beneath the lashes. When you are finished always smudge the line with your sponge. Stay as close to the lash line as possible. On the upper lid, draw a line form the inner corner to the outer corner, thickening the line toward the outer corner. After the age of 40 keep the line in between the lashes.

Mascara and the creation of beautiful lashes:

Mascara frames your eyes and can make your face come alive. Mascara softly accentuates the eye while thickening and darkening the lashes; it is the finishing touch for eyes. There are several different types to choose from, thickening, and waterproof to smudge proof. Waterproof will need a special remover and smudge proof will wash off easily. It is not a good idea to wear waterproof mascara for extended periods of time since it has a tendency to dry the lashes.

Select a shade of mascara that complements your coloring. Dark shades on pale eyes with brown lashes will darken them and will look harsh. Stay away from blues and other colors since they will ruin your look.

Lashes that are hard to curl may need the help of an eyelash curler. Curl your lashes before you apply mascara – hold for ten to twenty seconds.

To apply mascara look straight into your mirror with your chin slightly lifted so you can see your lashes. Insert the wand only once and twist, don’t pump. Pumping can break the brush bristles and distribute the mascara unevenly and will dry out the mascara faster. Start by rolling the wand from root to tip in an upward motion. Reinsert the brush and apply again. If your eyelashes are thick and long they may clunk together. If this happens let them dry and then separate them with the corner of an eyebrow brush.

There are cosmetics for almost every need. Foundations, lipsticks, hair dyes, hair straighteners, hair sprays, skin conditioners, contact lenses, sunscreens, tanning products, glosses, shadows and what have you….. The list is seemingly endless. Branded cosmetics abound! Choose between MAC cosmetics or Mary Kay cosmetics if you will. And if you can’t afford it – well, there’s always discount cosmetics which give you famous brands at a fraction of their price! So despair not! Get rid of that patch of graying hair, mask that niggling pimple, and banish the ugliness of your nose albeit temporarily with some prudently used cosmetics. Do take care, of course, to check out the contents. Certain cosmetic additives are harmful for the skin. Don’t use so called "cosmeceuticals" unless their content, medicinal benefits and safety is verified. Having done that, go right ahead and indulge. And, if a lipstick is all that’s between you and that Marilyn Monroe look, go, get it!

What is the difference between "Store Brand" and "Professional" Cosmetics? by

Everyone has heard the cliché "you get what you pay for". This is the main difference between professional cosmetics and store brands. You have to say to yourself "How come I can buy eye shadows in the store and they only cost $2.00?" The reason is the quality of the products in just not as good. Let me give you some practical examples. First let's look at foundation. Most of the foundations found in stores that are liquid are just that, liquid. In order for that foundation to have the consistency of water there has to be a large amount of water in it. You are also playing a guessing game when you have to choose the "right one". This is the reason why we charge more for our Custom-Blended Foundation. It is a cream-based formula with SPF-15 sun block, so it will moisturize and protect your skin while you wear it. Since we custom-blend our foundation you can be assured that it is the right color and shade for your eye color. This is important because you will notice that our foundation will not change colors on you over the course of the day. Another benefit is that it does not contain any waxes to cause it to crack or wrinkle after a short period of time. You can already start to understand the differences. Let's move on to lipstick.

Lipstick seems like a pretty general thing, but it isn't. Most of the "long-lasting lipsticks" tend to stain your lips and make them dry like the desert; whereas our lipsticks are cream-based, so they will stay on a long time and not dry your lips while you wear them. A great way to change the look of each of our lipsticks is to use your blush color as a base. Try that with the "long-lasting lipsticks" you will not see any difference, so you end up having to buy a larger variety of them in order to see any change.

While walking through the store you might notice a new eye shadow you like. Stop and think about it. What am I really getting? Most of the store brand eye shadows contain waxes that when mixed with the oils in your skin will start to crease and wrinkle much like the foundation mentioned earlier. Our eye shadows go on smooth and they can be applied either wet or dry. When applied wet they become water resistant, so a night out dancing is no problem.

Have you noticed that a lot of store brands are going towards compact powders instead of loose powder? You say to yourself "this seems more convenient". There is a reason they have to make it so "convenient" - you are going to need to "freshen up" all day long. Our powders are so finely processed that once you apply them in the morning you will not need to reapply it later in the day. Now of course if you are out in the sun being active, I am not saying that you will not need to freshen up later. What I am saying is that during normal activity like when you are at work there will be no need to reapply your powder. This will make your powder last a lot longer.

You just finished applying your make-up and you are about to put on your mascara. You open it and find out it has dried up again. Many of the companies that are producing "waterproof mascara" are still trying to figure out a way to keep their mascara waterproof without flaking and drying the eyelash. This is a pretty hard task for chemists with 10 years of college to figure out. Our mascara leaves your lashes thick and soft. There are no staining agents to cause our mascara to flake or dry your lashes. Those same staining agents are what cause the water-proof mascaras to dry out so fast. Even though they are charging less for their mascaras, the store brand manufacturers know that you will never be able to use the entire tube.

I have saved the best for last, concealer. When you browse our website you will notice we do not sell anything named concealer. The reason for this is it is not needed. Our Beige Eye-lite is a highlighter. This is used to lighten dark areas of the face like dark circles under the eyes, frown lines and other wrinkles or blemishes. The benefit to using our Beige Eye-lite is that it is creamy to blend seamlessly with the rest of your make-up, and you will still get the coverage you are looking for. The problem with a lot of the concealer is they are formulated like lip balm, so no matter how much you blend you can still see them.

I am not here to tell you what you are using is wrong. If you have been with us at Make-up by Armando since we started our website in December of 1999 you know our philosophy is to help our visitors get the tools and information the professionals use. I am merely showing you what you are buying for $2.50. We sell and promote our cosmetics because we know how well they can help everyone. We have had our own line of cosmetics since the early 70's. Just look at the facts and decide for yourself if it is really worth buying "store brand cosmetics."

The Truth About Cosmetics by

There’s no doubting the fact that most women will use cosmetics at least once in their lives. But what makes cosmetics so interesting is its different forms that have existed as far back as ancient Egypt when women adorned themselves with ochre as their rouge, and malachite to enhance their eyes. Cosmetics are defined as products whose sole purpose is cosmetic, or more simply put, to produce a superficial improvement. The right cosmetic can certainly improve the appearance of the skin but how can you decide which is the best product for you? One way is to learn how to interpret the ingredients list. Generally, the active ingredients are usually found among the first five items, with the others just added to keep the product stable or make it look, feel or smell nicer. Remember that just as product price does not correlate with a cosmetic product’s effectiveness, neither does an exotic or scientific sounding ingredient make a difference either. How “special” are special ingredients? How exactly do special ingredients work? Take amino acids for example. These are the building blocks of proteins which in turn, are the building blocks of our body. They are often added to cosmetics in order to “nourish” and rebuild the skin’s structure. The truth however, is they cannot penetrate the skin but remain on the surface and help the stratum corneum cells retain moisture and plump the skin up, making them good moisturizers. A lot of cosmetic products also contain collagen, the structural protein that lends support to the dermis and the overlying skin. Degeneration of collagen in the dermis results in wrinkles and sagging skin. However, collagen is a large molecule and cannot penetrate the skin. The only way collagen can get into the dermis is when it’s injected. This is why doctors have to inject collagen into the dermis to smooth out wrinkles and scars. The collagen in creams merely plump up the stratum corneum and are, in fact, good moisturizers as well. The same goes for elastin, a protein that is already found in the dermis. A great deal has been claimed about the beneficial effects of vitamins especially the so-called anti-oxidant vitamins A, C, and E. The anti-oxidant vitamins are supposed to sponge up free radicals—which are produced by a number of environmental factors such as UV rays, pollution and smoke—before they cause damage. Recently, a number of vitamin C formulations have been introduced in the market which are able to penetrate the skin but at the moment these are only available from doctors. Vitamin A compounds such as retinol, retanyl palmitate and retanyl acetate are found in so-called “anti-wrinkle” creams and may give the impression that they reduce wrinkles. The fact is, they don’t. Most doctors believe that the concentrations are too low to be effective. The only effective form of vitamin A is tretinoin which has to be prescribed by a doctor. Although vitamin E or tocopherol acetate is an anti-oxidant, there is no proof that it actually works. Very often vitamin E is added to cosmetics as an anti-oxidant to prevent the product from going rancid and not for its activity. This is one of those cosmetic ingredients that one will usually find towards the end of the list. Where there are cosmetics containing vitamins, there are (more often than not) also minerals. Trace elements are essential for health so they too have been added to cosmetics to give the impression of some health benefits. Selenium and zinc have anti-oxidant properties and have been added to cosmetics, as well. Aside from these, there are other secondary ingredients that one can find on the label of cosmetic packages. Due to the different skin types, cosmetic manufacturers will spend time and resources to formulate what they think is most suitable for a particular type, which results in shelves of products that lead to an irksome shopping experience for the consumer. If keeping tabs of cosmetics and their different ingredients is too much of a hassle, one can concentrate instead on caring for the skin so that it won’t need to be covered by cosmetics.

Petroleum and Cosmetics: What Are The Potential Health Risks? by

What is petroleum?

Crude oil, sometimes called petroleum, is a fossil fuel that was produced deep in the earth through a process that took millions of years to complete.

Millions of years later, almost all of us come into contact with a derivative of petroleum every day. Through a process called fractional distillation, petroleum refineries break petroleum into many of its smaller components. Each of these smaller components is made up of molecules called hydrocarbons.

The world is full of products that come from petroleum. For example, gasoline, styrofoam, lubricating oils, and many other items are all derivatives of this raw material. How are petroleum and cosmetics related? The two seemingly unrelated items, petroleum and cosmetics, are indeed closely related in our modern world.

Mineral oil and petroleum are the basic ingredients in many cosmetic products today. Both mineral oil and petroleum have the same origins in fossils fuels. Cosmetics such as foundations, cleansers, and moisturizers often contain mineral oil. By locking moisture against the skin, mineral oil sits on the skin’s surface and can potentially block pores. This may cause the appearance of pimples because the skin cannot properly ‘breathe’.

Fragrances in lotions, shampoos, and many other cosmetic products are composed of aromatic hydrocarbons. Perfumes and products containing fragrance can contain many hundreds of chemicals to produce a distinct scent. A significant number of these aromas are derived from petroleum.

One popular chemical additive that carries moisture in cosmetics is propylene glycol. It is also a derivative of petroleum. Some products that list propylene glycol as an ingredient include: anti-freeze laundry detergent paint shampoo conditioner

Past research links propylene glycol to serious health problems as liver and kidney damage as well as respiratory irritation or nausea if swallowed.

An antiseptic, isopropyl alcohol, kills bacteria on the skin. You can find it on the ingredient list of cleansers, toners and other cosmetic products. Unfortunately, this derivative of petroleum dries the skin and may cause miniature cracks in the skin that allow bacteria to enter, potentially causing irritations or pimples.

Do these petroleum-derived products affect your health?

Your skin covers your body and acts as a physical barrier to many of the pollutants in the atmosphere. When you use products on your skin such as cosmetics, lotions, and shampoos, the ingredients in these products come into direct contact with your body’s largest organ; your skin. You may ask yourself, where do the ingredients in the products go? Modern research at the Herb Research Foundation found that the skin absorbs up to 60% of the chemicals in products that it comes into contact with directly into the bloodstream. Today, hormone therapy treatments and smoking cessation medications are often prescribed as patches that you apply directly to the skin. The medication passes through the skin and directly enters the bloodstream.

For pregnant women, the risk is not only for her body but also for the developing fetus. If the chemicals found in cosmetics readily enter the bloodstream when applied to the skin, then they will also reach the developing baby. Researchers at the Brunel University in England are looking closely at a family of preservatives called parabens. Their research has recently linked parabens to the possibility that male babies will have lower sperm counts. These preservatives are derived from petroleum and help to maintain the freshness and integrity of the product. Currently, many manufacturers add parabens to cosmetics to allow a minimum of 3 years shelf life. Therefore, the parabens kill any bacteria that could potentially enter the product. If these chemical ingredients can kill the bacterial cells, what are they doing to your skin cells? In most cases, there is no conclusive answer to this question. However, the research mentioned strongly suggests that the synthetic ingredients may have a significant impact on our bodies.

In many cases, the long-term effects of many of the chemical additives in our cosmetics are not known. However, other chemical additives are known carcinogens. These types of chemicals can cause cancer in humans. Such chemicals include some artificial colours in cosmetics. The effects of chemicals and other synthetic ingredients in cosmetics may lead to mild allergic reactions causing rashes and minor skin irritation to more significant problems such as lesions on the skin.

What are your alternatives for cosmetics?

Luckily, there are alternatives to cosmetics filled with synthetically produced ingredients. Increasingly, cosmetic manufacturers are answering the public’s demand for alternatives to the chemically loaded beauty and grooming supplies. The Organic Make-up Company is one such company that is leading the way in producing high-quality, organically manufactured cosmetics! As a consumer, you have the ability to decrease the number of preservatives and chemical additives your skin comes into contact with and therefore, that may enter your body. To avoid using the synthetically derived fragrances, look for products containing essential oils. These are pure oils derived from flowers and other plants in nature.

All you have to do is make the simple choice of purchasing cosmetic products with all-natural, organic ingredients. Whether you continue using cosmetics that contain petroleum-based ingredients or not is a personal choice. What is the most important is to get the facts and to know that you have a choice when it comes to buying organic or synthetic cosmetic products.

Why Switch to All Natural Cosmetics? by

The human skin wraps and protects our bodies. It constitutes a living, dynamic tissue system. It has the remarkable ability to absorb applied products, partially or completely, into the bloodstream. In fact, up to 60% of the products we use on our skin are absorbed and deposited into the circulatory system (Fairley, 2001). For instance, the average woman absorbs 30 pounds of the ingredients contained in moisturizers over sixty years (Dr.Hauschka).

These new understandings of how the skin functions reveal concerns about the possible long term effects due to the combination of chemicals used in cosmetics, often termed the "chemical cocktail effect". Several chemicals which are used in common, popular cosmetics are known irritants and carcinogens. Concern stems from the knowledge that most of these ingredients are derived synthetically or from petroleum. Avoiding these substances serve to decrease overall exposure to harmful or irritating cosmetic ingredients.

Ingredients to Avoid

Forms Found in Cosmetics and Possible Negative Side Effects

Aluminum Thought to contribute to Alzheimer's Disease. Found in almost all antiperspirants. Works by blocking pores so sweat cannot be released by the skin.

Artificial colours FD&C, derived from coal tar. For example, Azo dyes are a risk to asthmatics, eczema sufferers and people sensitive to aspirin. Causes hyperactivity in children, severe headaches, blurred vision and itchy/watery eyes and nose (Antczak, 2001).

Benzoates Benzoates Benzoic acid, sodium benzoate or parahydroxy benzoate. Used as a preservative in cosmetics and fizzy drinks. Causes gastric irritation, numbing of the mouth and aggravates asthma (Antczak, 2001).

Certain essential oils Rosemary is harmful to epileptics.Sage is not recommended for pregnant women.

DEA, MEA, TEA Causes allergic reactions, irritating to eyes and dries out hair and skin (Fairley, 2001).

Dibutyl phthalate Found in all persons tested by the CDC (Center for Disease Control, USA) in a 2000 Fall study. Highest levels were found in women of reproductive age. Causes birth defects in animals, and damaging to the male reproductive system (ABC News, Internet Ventures 2000). Used in cosmetics to assist the absorption of other ingredients.

Formaldehydes A preservative. Causes skin reactions. Imidazolidinyl urea is the second most identified preservative causing contact dermatitis ( American Academy of Dermatology: Fairley, 2001). DMDM hydantoin Quaternium 15 Diazolidinylurea 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1 3-diol

Fragrances Can contain up to 200 undeclared substances (Fairley, 2001). Major cause, in addition to artificial colours, of skin irritations and allergies (Antczak, 2001). May cause dizziniess, skin irritation and hyperpigmentation (Fairley, 2001).

Genetically Modified Organisms Soy, Corn Effects still undetermined.

Isopropyl Alcohol Drying agent, from petroleum.

Keratolytic chemicals Such as hydroxyl acids, retinoic acid. Corrosive, used in skin peels. Dissolves the stratum corneum of the epidermis (outermost layer), making skin more sensitive to sun damage. Accelerates production of dead skin cells; the skin thickens to repair its surface so that vulnerable skin cells underneath are protected from the effects of skin peeling.(Antczak, 2001).

Methylisothiazolinone Causes allergic reactions and irritations (Fairley, 2001).

Parabens Petroleum product. Triggers skin irritations and may be an xerestrogen (Fairley, 2001).May play a role in falling sperm counts and rising breast cancer rates (Fairley, 2001).Used in 99% of all cosmetics (Fairley, 2001), and in many so-called 'natural' products.

Parraffin Derived from petroleum. In the form of wax, mineral oil or petrolatum. Comedogenic, i.e.blocks pores.

Propylene Glycol When derived from petroleum. Increases the amount of acid in the body, resulting in metabolic problems. Large amounts are needed to produce this effect (Agency forToxic Substances and Disease Registry or ATSDR, 2003).

Sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate Forms carcinogenic nitrogen compounds when combined with specific ingredients. Irritating to eyes, skin and lungs (Antczak, 2001). Harmful if swallowed and may cause damage to eyes (Antczak, 2001).

Tallow Animal fat. Not suitable for vegans, and may be a skin irritant.

Toluene Found in many nail products and nail polish removers. Produced during the process of making gasoline and other fuels from crude oil or coal. Evaporates into the air when products containing toluene are opened. May affect the nervous system, and/or cause tiredness, confusion, weakness, nausea, or loss of appetite. Symptoms disappear when exposure is eliminated (ATSDR, 2003).

In Canada, not all cosmetics list their ingredients on their labels, but most have toll free telephone numbers which link you to their customer service departments, where inquiries about ingredient lists can be made. Reading labels and recognizing problematic ingredients are necessary skills for a consumer who intends to choose products that are completely natural. The cost of a cosmetic is not a reliable indicator of either its quality or natural characteristics. Most cosmetics, from the lowest priced, to the most costly brands, are composed of identical base ingredients (Begoun, 1991).

Cosmetics do not stay on the surface of the skin without penetrating to some degree. Lipstick wearers, for example, consume 1.5 to 4 tubes in a lifetime (Aveda). If one considers the ingredients being internalized by the body, absorbing plant oils and waxes, mineral pigments or essential oils is a healthier alternative than absorbing petroleum by-products and synthetic chemicals. The ability to choose the right cosmetics for you depends on accurate ingredient knowledge, personal needs and market choices. Caring for one's whole body includes skin care choices that support and contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

Natural cosmetic products and make-up are safer, healthier alternatives especially when these products are composed of all natural ingredients. A natural product is described as one that contains mostly or completely naturally derived ingredients (Antczak, 2001). It also indicates that the product is free from, or contains minute amounts of artificial chemical additives. Caution is required when products claim to be natural. For instance, they may contain small amounts of plant extracts, but the bulk of the product is petroleum based and loaded with fragrances. Instead, consider switching to completely natural products, which perform to the same standard as their non-natural counterparts. The Organic Make-up Company offers a wide range of simple, affordable and high quality products. Our cosmetic products are carefully formulated from plant waxes, plant oils, essential oils from flowers, barks and spices, as well as richly coloured mineral pigments.

Switching to all-natural cosmetic products and make-up can help you to avoid feeding your skin harmful chemicals. Many skin problems, such as acne, contact dermatitis, irritations and allergies may disappear once petroleum or synthetic ingredients are removed from your skin care regimen. Using fully natural products can contribute to healthy skin and a healthy body in the long term.

We invite you to give our natural products a try. They are completely natural, vegan and an excellent alternative to conventional cosmetics and make-up.

Natural Cosmetics by

In a world full of technology, machines and elements, the only thing protecting our bodies is our skin. Did you know we spend around 6 to 20 percent of our disposable income on products for our skin? Our skin is important to us and most of us will do anything to preserve its youth and longevity. But do we ever think about what we put on our skin every day?Sure, many products claim to be safe or may even appear to be safe, but beyond the short term benefits of using the cosmetic, there are long term effects from daily absorption of its use. Creams that are suppose to treat dry skin may actually strip the skin of its natural oils, which are useful in preventing dryness. Some contain chemicals that seep through the skin and defat the skin.So what's a better alternative? Natural cosmetics! Consider switching to completely natural products, which perform to the same standard as their non-natural counterparts. Whether you are a makeup artist or an esthetician that may use cosmetics every day or a consumer who applies the occasional moisturizer, we may not see any immediate effects from the current products we are using. Even though we are all dying for beautiful skin, keep in mind the healthy alternatives. We only have one skin, so care for it properly.By Maggie Ng, Make-up Artisthttp://www.maggieng.com and http://www.organicmakeupcompany.com

Vying for Those Desirable Cosmetics Patients by

Dentists going for the “gold ring” of cosmetic dentistry practice might find the reach may exceed their grasp.Just about any dental practitioner answers to the title, “Cosmetic Dentist.” But placing the C-word on a shingle may not automatically impress today’s patients. A barrage of media accounts of vanity healthcare adventures has created a new consumer in dental care that is also well informed via the Internet. And now that a young, healthy smile is a “must-have” among patients of all ages, this savvy public can more easily detect the “wannabe” from the real thing. So, dentists aiming to attract patients with “smile makeovers” in their eyes better make sure they measure up:Training, training, training. Dentists operating at the top of the cosmetic heap continually attend seminars and workshops to remain at the forefront of research, materials and techniques. “Dentistry has changed more in the last five years than in the last 20 years,” says Dr. Daniel Deutsch, at the Washington Center for Dentistry, in Washington, DC. “So, we can’t get away with just reading professional journals. It means regular hands-on training with top specialists in the field.”Speaking with authority.A fine cosmetic dentist will speak with honesty, clarity and authority about options to improve a smile. They will be upfront and map out an organized plan of dental services, including phases of treatment, how much time it will take and how much it will cost. These dentists know better than to try to sell a “quick fix.” They have respect for the patient and the process.Good Taste in Smile Design A dentist needs refined taste and artistry when it comes to teeth, because patients are entrusting them with a critical esthetic responsibility—their smile. “A smile change is a self-esteem matter,” says Dr. Marc Doctors, also of Washington, DC. And a session to review a smile design outlines the direction the treatment will take. This is the moment patients expect an impressive display of knowledge about the well-engineered smile. ·The Sophisticate These teeth sport evenly aligned edges and usually mark a more mature smile.·The Celebrity The prominent central front teeth are longer than their next-door neighbors and convey a “sexy” image of youth, warmth and vigor.·The Sport This design falls between mature and sexy, with central front teeth still somewhat longer and prominent than the lateral neighbors, but it is softer, connoting health more than age or youth.·Skin tone, lips, height and body type determine which features should go into a smile. ·Computer imaging or mockup materials and photos are used to give an idea of a result. Experience! There’s nothing like experience to help convince patients that they are in good hands in their quest for a new smile. Good cosmetic dentists doing a lot of successful cosmetic dentistry ooze experience when they talk. “While every smile is different, every smile design covers similar territory,” says Washington Center for Dentistry’s Dr. Bernard Lynch, Photos are everythingFine cosmetic dentists will pull out books of photos showing before-and-after images of their own work. These photos easily provide the chance to see other patients with similar problems and their results. Testimonials And of course a dentist needs endorsements to demonstrate that others have been happy with their work. Many docs have books of letters from former patients. With a lovely office to matchIt’s the image thing here. A good cosmetic dentist provides a refined environment for patients. The psychology at work is that an immaculate, well-designed office enhances the image of the dentist’s taste in teeth.Look the partAnd the cosmetic docs also take seriously the importance of their own meticulous physical image. Immaculate grooming speaks volumes about the care doctors will take with their work. Today’s cosmetic dentists have their work cut out for them. The bar is set high. And with keen competition for patients, dentists should prepare to always aim high and reach for that “gold ring.”

For instance, the average woman absorbs 30 pounds of the ingredients contained in moisturizers over sixty years (Dr.Hauschka).These new understandings of how the skin functions reveal concerns about the possible long term effects due to the combination of chemicals used in cosmetics, often termed the "chemical cocktail effect". Most cosmetics, from the lowest priced, to the most costly brands, are composed of identical base ingredients (Begoun, 1991).Cosmetics do not stay on the surface of the skin without penetrating to some degree. Caring for one's whole body includes skin care choices that support and contribute to a healthy lifestyle.Natural cosmetic products and make-up are safer, healthier alternatives especially when these products are composed of all natural ingredients. The organic make-up co. offers a wide range of simple, affordable and high quality products. Our cosmetic products are carefully formulated from plant waxes, plant oils, essential oils from flowers, barks and spices, as well as richly coloured mineral pigments.Switching to all-natural cosmetic products and make-up can help you to avoid feeding your skin harmful chemicals. Many skin problems, such as acne, contact dermatitis, irritations and allergies may disappear once petroleum or synthetic ingredients are removed from your skin care regimen. Using fully natural products can contribute to healthy skin and a healthy body in the long term.We invite you to give our natural products a try. They are completely natural, vegan and an excellent alternative to conventional cosmetics and make-up.To view our products, please visit our website at www.organicmakeup.ca.References:- Antczak, Dr. Stephen and Gina, (2001). Mineral Cosmetics by

Skin that is flawless and youthful looking is what most women desire. Unfortunately, these desires are often thwarted by the lure of advertisements for traditional cosmetics that are widespread. Mineral cosmetics offer benefits, but their acceptance is not overwhelming. Reason being, people associate mineral cosmetics with something that is substandard. In the case of cosmetics, it is the general thought that an individual doesn’t obtain the coverage and “look” that they want. In this article we will take a look at mineral cosmetics and what they have to offer.Mineral and natural cosmetics are often considered synonymous. Although there are similarities between the two, they actually refer to two different types of products for the skin. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a product that is "natural" contains ingredients that are derived from plants or animals. It also has determined that any products that contain stabilizers (additives) of color that are derivatives of earth are considered mineral cosmetics. An example of an ingredient that is added to mineral cosmetics is titanium oxide. This additive is generally added to face powders to create the various shades of color. One of the great benefits of mineral cosmetics is that they are resistant to water. Unlike traditional cosmetics that “cake” and “run” in water, mineral cosmetics cling to your skin, maintaining the flawless skin tone you want to display. Another benefit of using mineral cosmetics is that you protect your body from harmful chemicals. When you use mineral cosmetics you use those elements that are natural to your body and that create a natural look. Traditional cosmetics contain chemicals that are not natural to your body and that may clog your pores and cause blemishes, or worse, result in you developing cancer. The fewer chemicals that you introduce to your body, the more you reduce your risk of cancer.Another benefit associated with using mineral cosmetics is that you actually help your skin to remain healthy. The natural ingredients in mineral cosmetics have a healing effect that can help to improve skin conditions such as skin damage and acne. Dermatologists generally forbid an individual suffering from these skin conditions to wear traditional cosmetics because they can make the conditions worse. Mineral cosmetics also provide the skin with natural moisture. If you have very dry skin you still may want to use a moisturizer. The two downsides of mineral cosmetics are cost and availability. The process to obtain and add the necessary ingredients to mineral cosmetics is costly. The Internet does provide some release in the sense that the companies that advertise there don’t have to worry about overhead so that they can charge better prices. Your best bet of locating these products is to find a health food store. These stores generally carry a variety of mineral cosmetics and have knowledgeable staff available to assist you if you should have any questions. If you don’t live near a health food store, you can perform a search online for companies that sell mineral cosmetics and request a catalog.

Petroleum and Cosmetics: What are the potential health risks? by

What is petroleum?Crude oil, sometimes called petroleum, is a fossil fuel that was produced deep in the earth through a process that took millions of years to complete.Millions of years later, almost all of us come into contact with a derivative of petroleum every day. The two seemingly unrelated items, petroleum and cosmetics, are indeed closely related in our modern world.Mineral oil and petroleum are the basic ingredients in many cosmetic products today. Both mineral oil and petroleum have the same origins in fossils fuels. Cosmetics such as foundations, cleansers, and moisturizers often contain mineral oil. By locking moisture against the skin, mineral oil sits on the skin’s surface and can potentially block pores. This may cause the appearance of pimples because the skin cannot properly ‘breathe’.Fragrances in lotions, shampoos, and many other cosmetic products are composed of aromatic hydrocarbons. Perfumes and products containing fragrance can contain many hundreds of chemicals to produce a distinct scent. A significant number of these aromas are derived from petroleum. One popular chemical additive that carries moisture in cosmetics is propylene glycol. It is also a derivative of petroleum. Some products that list propylene glycol as an ingredient include:- anti-freeze- laundry detergent- paint- shampoo- conditionerPast research links propylene glycol to serious health problems as liver and kidney damage as well as respiratory irritation or nausea if swallowed. An antiseptic, isopropyl alcohol, kills bacteria on the skin. You can find it on the ingredient list of cleansers, toners and other cosmetic products. Unfortunately, this derivative of petroleum dries the skin and may cause miniature cracks in the skin that allow bacteria to enter, potentially causing irritations or pimples.Do these petroleum-derived products affect your health?Your skin covers your body and acts as a physical barrier to many of the pollutants in the atmosphere. What are your alternatives for cosmetics?Luckily, there are alternatives to cosmetics filled with synthetically produced ingredients. What is the most important is to get the facts and to know that you have a choice when it comes to buying organic or synthetic cosmetic products.References:- Fairley, Josephine. Standards for Natural and Organic Cosmetics by

Standards for Natural and Organic Cosmetics If you are concerned about what you eat, and the levels of synthetic chemicals present in your food, the next logical step is to focus attention on what you put on your skin every day. Up to 60 percent of what is applied to the skin soaks through to the blood vessels where it is processed by the liver. The rest of the cosmetic is absorbed by the skin or evaporates away. For those who approach their health holistically, cosmetics warrant a closer view as to what the current standards are regarding natural and organic cosmetics. A natural cosmetic denotes a product made with natural ingredients and simple methods of preparation. Natural cosmetics should also be free from chemical ingredients, which are agents that have undergone extreme heat or pressure to drastically alter the chemical profile of the original substance. Many synthetic chemicals, although chemically identical to their natural parallels, have a history of causing allergies, contact dermatitis and other adverse reactions when they are used in cosmetics. Petroleum-derived substances likewise have a dubious history, causing damage to the environment and the skin. If in the manufacture of a cosmetic ingredient or whole cosmetic the ecology and biodiversity of the flora and fauna of the earth has been irreparably damaged, then the cosmetic cannot claim to be natural or organic. Likewise, genetically modified, bio-engineered or irradiated ingredients appear contrary to the concept of a natural cosmetic. Natural ingredients must be limited to substances which are derived directly and simply from plant sources, minerals and rarely animal sources, and use methods such as cold-pressing, distillation, collecting, such as with beeswax or honey, which imposes no harm to the bee or its hive, harvesting plants and seeds, etc. In addition, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to examine the safety data for each ingredient used to ensure minimal or no toxicity to the consumer. In Canada, there are no current standards for natural or organic cosmetics, and organic food labeling is voluntary. In the U.S., many are lobbying for stringent standards in the cosmetic industry, to regulate how the terms "natural" and "organic" can be used. There are no standards for personal care products, and some manufacturers have procured certifications by independent organizations from various parts of the world. Ingredients which are used in the manufacture of cosmetics which are certified agriculturally by the USDA can be identified on labels. For food, a product is 95-100 percent organic if it contains mostly or only organically produced ingredients. The California Organic Products Act of 2003 states that a personal care product is certified organic if it contains 70 percent minimum weight organic ingredients which are non-water and non-salt, but the rest can be synthetic or petroleum derived as long as these substances are on the National Organic Program’s approved list. Controversy has arisen from the use of hydrosols, or floral waters to constitute the bulk of the 70 percent, in order to gain certification. Clearly, focus on organic status in necessary, but more pressing is the issue of whether a cosmetic is truly natural or not. It is not possible at the present time to have a full range of cosmetic products which are made from all certified organic ingredients, since the cost is prohibitive, but more importantly the availability of ingredients which would qualify as truly organic are not available. The Organic Makeup Company http://www.organicmakeupcompany.com is committed to providing consumers the following assurances:- Our all natural cosmetics have been prepared by pure, simple, natural ingredients and preparation methods- The environment has been respected in the manufacture of our cosmetic products- Renewable resources have been used, where possible.- Absolutely no synthetic or petroleum derived ingredients have been used in any or our products.- Products which have been genetically modified (corn, soy and wheat) have not been used when a non-gmo alternative is available for use.- Irradiated ingredients have not been used.- Animal products, animal slaughter by-products or animal by-products which have caused the suffering of an animal have not been used.- Where possible, certified organic ingredients have been used, and continue to be sought out to replace non-certified organic ingredients.- Packaging materials have been simplified to reduce landfill waste, and have been selected for their ability to be washed out and re-used by the consumer for other purposes.- For vegan consumers who object to the use of beeswax, all products have been formulated with plant waxes to replace beeswax at the consumer’s request.

Just look at the facts and decide for yourself if it is really worth buying "store brand cosmetics."Make-up by Armando - Your Beauty Solutionhttp://www.makeupbyarmando.com/
